National Institute of Health (NIH) Autism Research Network (CPEA & STAART)

The NIH support two major research networks dedicated to understanding and treating autism:
1 The Collaborative Programs of Excellence in Autism (CPEA) Network conducts research to learn about the possible causes of autism, including genetics, immunological and environmental factors, as well as diagnosis, early detection, behavioral and communications characteristics, and treatment of autism.
2 Studies to Advance Autism Research and Treatment (STAART) Network was created as one of the responses to the Children's Health Act of 2000, NIH established an autism research network.

The Seaver and New York Autism Center of Excellence, funded by a major grant from the Seaver Foundation since 1993, is dedicated to unraveling the biological causes of autism and related disorders, and developing effective treatments for autism.
