Jeremy M. Silverman, Ph.D.

Dr. Jeremy M. Silverman is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Director of the Mount Sinai Family Studies Research Center which he established in 1988. He received his B.A. from Oberlin College (1978) and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from New York University (1987). He joined the Psychiatry Department faculty at Mount Sinai in 1987. Dr. Silverman's major research interests pertain to the improved delineation of phenotypes and endophenotypes (intermediate phenotypes) associated with schizophrenia, autism, Alzheimer's disease, and successful cognitive aging in order to strengthen gene finding strategies. Dr. Silverman is also interested in the identification of non-genetic risk and protective factors associated with these conditions.
Michal Schnaider Beeri, Ph.D.

Dr. Michal Schnaider Beeri is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. Dr. Beeri joined the faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2001. Specializing in geriatric psychology, Dr. Beeri is the Project Director of longitudinal studies examining risk and protective factors against Alzheimer's disease. Recently she has received a K award (for young investigators) to study the effects of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) on the development of Alzheimer's disease in the oldest old. In addition, she has received a young investigator grant to study the effects of AGEs on cognition in younger non-demented elderly. Dr. Beeri's B.A. and Masters degrees were awarded Cum Laude. She received her Ph.D. in rehabilitation psychology from Bar Ilan University in Israel in 2000. She won the Brookdale Institute of Gerontology and Human Development and the Gonda Foundation awards. Recently, she received an young investigator award of excellence from the International College of Geriatric Psychopharmacology. In Israel , Dr. Beeri conducted a major prospective historical epidemiological study of cardiovascular risk factors in middle age and Alzheimer's disease in an oldest old population. Drawing on a cohort of 10,000 male Israeli civil service workers who had participated in a cardiovascular risk factors study in the early 1960s, Dr. Beeri assessed for Alzheimer's disease the 2,000 survivors. He publications focus on risk and protective factors against Alzheimer's disease and she examines those both epidemiologically and neuropathologically.

Rebecca West

Rebecca graduated from Hofstra University in 2001 with a BA in Psychology, and from Hunter College, City University of New York in 2005 with a MA in Psychology. For the last three years, Rebecca has been involved with the COGS and MGS projects, and has also done work for the Epidemiological/Genetics Studies of Schizophrenia project, Biological Psychiatry project, and several of the healthy aging projects. Rebecca plans to return to school in the near future to pursue a PhD in either Experimental or Cognitive Psychology.
Lauren Kryzak

Lauren graduated from Binghamton University SUNY in 2003 with a BA in Psychology. For over two years she worked as the Clinical Research Coordinator for the Family Studies Autism and Related Studies project. In the fall of 2005, she returned school to obtain her Master's degree in Forensic Psychology from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. At that time, she also transitioned to become the Research Coordinator for the Molecular Genetics of Schizophrenia project at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She also obtained her certification as a New York State Phlebotomy Technician in 2005.
Rui Ferreira

Rui Ferreira was an under-graduate research assistant at the State University College of Oneonta for two years. There he acquired his Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology while conducting research on human an non-human subjects. He also has experience with human subjects research while working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Mount Sinai for the last four years. He also obtained his certification as a New York State Phlebotomy Technician in 2005.

Lauren Brickman received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Union College in 2007. She currently works as a Clinical Research Coordinator on the Family Studies Autism and Related Disorders study.

Lauren Donnelly received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education from Colgate University in 2007. At Colgate, Lauren worked on behavioral and neuroscience studies. She currently works as a Clinical Research Coordinator on the Family Studies Autism and Related Disorders study.
